Does the PGA count as a Bachelor's degree?
No. It's an access and bridging qualification, not a BA or an "honorary BA." It strengthens a graduate application; it doesn't replace an undergraduate degree.
What are the actual entry requirements?
Per Warwick's own application system: applicants must hold, or expect to achieve, a Lower Second Class Honours degree (or non-UK equivalent) — or, alternatively, have completed Islamic Seminary training. You do not need a Western Bachelor's degree if your background is seminary-based.
Can I apply from outside the UK?
Yes. The course is open to overseas students and delivered fully online.
Does completing the PGA guarantee MA admission?
It guarantees consideration under Warwick's own APL/APEL policy and is the named route into the MA in Islamic Education. It does not guarantee admission to other universities — each applies its own policy.
What does it cost?

Is financial support available?

Should I upload my certificates separately?
No — combine all your certificates and supporting documents into a single PDF before uploading, rather than one at a time. One clean docket is easier for admissions to review and less likely to have something get missed or lost.
The application portal won't let me upload or complete a section — what do I do?
Try a different browser. Most upload and completion issues on Warwick's portal are browser-related — Google Chrome tends to work most reliably.
How does the academic reference actually work?
Once you submit, Warwick emails your named referee directly with a secure link — they can respond either by typing their reference as text or uploading a PDF. The link expires 60 days after the email is sent, so follow up with your referee to make sure they act on it promptly. Here's what the email looks like, so both you and your referee recognize it as legitimate:

Do I need a personal statement, and what should it look like?
Yes — every applicant needs one. It doesn't need to be long or formal; it needs to explain your background honestly and why this specific bridge between seminary training and academic study matters to you. Here's a generic example of the shape one might take:
"My path into Islamic education began in the seminary, not the university — years of study and, later, teaching within a traditional curriculum. Over time I found myself doing the work of a researcher and educator without ever having been trained as one: designing lessons, mentoring younger teachers, adapting material for different audiences, largely by instinct rather than any formal grounding in educational theory.
The PGA appeals to me because it treats that gap seriously. I'm not looking to abandon my seminary training or replace it with something else — I'm looking for the academic vocabulary and research skills to reflect on what I already do, and to do it better. I want to understand how contemporary educational theory speaks to, and sometimes challenges, the pedagogic assumptions I inherited, and to bring that thinking back into the classrooms and institutions I serve.
I see this course as a genuine bridge: a way to carry what I've learned in one tradition into serious engagement with another, and — in time — to contribute to closing that gap for others coming up behind me."
Can my nominated contact be a family member?
Yes. The Nominated Contact is a separate, optional field from your academic referee — it's simply someone Warwick can speak with if they have a question about your application, and a spouse or family member is fine for this. It is not the same as your academic reference, which cannot be a family member or friend.
What happens after I submit my application?
Expect several emails from Warwick over the following days. A few days after submitting, you'll receive an email with your Warwick University ID, asking you to register an ITS account to access the Applicant Portal (where you can track your application status). This account can take time to activate — try waiting about 36 hours after receiving your ID before attempting to register, especially if you see a message like this:

This isn't an error with your application — it's just account-provisioning lag. Here's a genericized version of the actual confirmation email so you know what to expect:

What happens once my ITS account is working?
You can log into the Applicant Portal to track your application's progress. Typically, applicants first receive a conditional offer while Warwick awaits official transcripts and a reference letter — this is a normal stage, not a rejection or a problem with your application. Once your documents are uploaded and your reference has been submitted, please allow some time to hear back — Warwick still needs to review everything before issuing your final acceptance letter and next steps. Try not to read anything into the wait itself; follow up through the Applicant Portal if it's been a while and you haven't heard anything.
